Through a mutual agreement, First Coast News can utilize the TV studio at our Deerwood Campus during an emergency. The studio provides the news station a safe place to broadcast emergency information to viewers in the instance that their news station near the St. Johns River is inoperable due to a storm.

FSCJ was recently notified of the decision by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) Board of Trustees to reaffirm the institution's accreditation for ten years. Dual-enrolled Damon Edmond just earned his Associate in Arts degree from Florida State College at Jacksonville through the Early College High School program while earning his diploma from Lee High School. Now he has been named the 2014 North Florida African-American Youth Achiever by The Jim Moran Foundation, entitling him to a four-year scholarship to Florida State University.

Students attending career academies at Raines, Ed White, Jean Ribault, First Coast and Mandarin high schools presented a plan to the Jacksonville Chamber, business partners and mentors to create and run a healthy burrito food truck business as a capstone project for their respective career academies. Florida State College at Jacksonville's Culinary Arts program is their partner in food preparation. Other businesses will partner in the career fields of information technology, logistics, financial services, and health and life services.

Florida State College at Jacksonville Economics Professor Chris Markl, social entrepreneur and One Spark creator, released his report analyzing the financial outcome for One Spark crowd-funding festival participants. The success of the festival notwithstanding, his research claims that not many creators gained much financially, and explains what he thinks should be done to improve the impact for the creators and measurement of the impact for the organizers.

Florida State College at Jacksonville's Youlanda Henry talked with WJXT about Maya Angelou's 86 years of life as a worldwide acclaimed poet, author, actress, singer, screenwriter, director, dancer and activist. Although Angelou never earned a formal degree, she received numerous honorary degrees and strongly believed in and encouraged lifelong learning. Henry, associate dean of North Campus Library and Learning Commons, tells why she thinks Angelou's impact and appeal was so broad, embraced by people from any and all backgrounds.
