May 2021 Recruitment Update

Jun 9, 2022, 12:56 PM

For many of us, it may be hard to believe that we are on the cusp of summer. Yet, as a college community, we just wrapped up Spring Term classes, a variety of successful Commencement Caravans, and we are about to kick off A session for the Summer Term.

As we move through May, we’re pleased to share we closed out a busy April on a high note with three Operation Boost events at various community centers in Jacksonville. Operation Boost is a workforce readiness event that connects students with short-term training programs designed to quickly get them connected to high-wage jobs. FSCJ hosted events on April 17, 22, and 24 at three different community centers in Jacksonville featuring a variety of short-term programs along with application and financial aid assistance. All attendees received application fee waivers and were entered into a drawing for a $500 scholarship at each event location. For more details, please visit https://www.fscj.edu/academics/operation-boost.

April also saw our participation in the Virtual National College Fair on Tuesday, April 20. The fair featured colleges and universities from the southeastern United States. Free and open to the public, this event brings hundreds of colleges and universities together in one virtual setting. Attendees had the opportunity to learn about FSCJ degrees and certificates, financial aid and scholarships, career outlooks for in-demand programs, and student success resources at FSCJ. One-on-one meetings with FSCJ representatives were also available throughout the program.

With summer approaching, events include our annual Form Your Future: Financial Aid Homestretch virtual event on Tuesday, May 11. Form Your Future is a community collaboration that provides students tips for completing the FAFSA, setting up an FSA ID and selecting the right college and major.  Following Form Your Future, a Paying for College in-person event is planned for Saturday, May 22. This event will take place at the ATC at our Downtown Campus to provide students and their families an opportunity to receive additional in-person support with their financial aid. Please visit our events page at https://visit.fscj.edu/ for a complete listing of virtual and in-person programming. Make sure to visit often as the calendar is updated regularly.

Now that Summer and Fall 2021 Open Registration are taking place, we are excited to announce a singular, dedicated virtual admissions queue in QLess for our students. Previously, FSCJ offered several location-bound queues at each campus for Admissions. Students would choose a campus location and select the Admissions queue. This structure created different challenges for our students, including inaccurate estimates on wait times for services and a lack of direct connectivity through the Admissions homepage. The new dedicated queue now provides accurate expectations for wait times along with direct access through the Admissions homepage as well as a link from Academic Advising
