February 2021 Recruitment Update

Jun 9, 2022, 12:56 PM

Though it seems like yesterday we returned from our Winter Break, we are now sprinting toward our upcoming Spring Break. And like any race, we have plenty of signposts to look forward to as we dash through February and into March.

Recruitment and Admissions continue to participate in several outreach events, with a mix of virtual and in-person events scheduled throughout February. All in-person events have limited capacity and include strict adherence to CDC guidelines for social-distancing to protect both staff and guests in attendance. These events include popular topics such as College and Career Exploration, Application Assistance and Financial Aid Nights. Please go to visit.fscj.edu to see our full schedule of events, which is updated regularly.

In addition to regular weekly events, we recently hosted a couple of important annual events in late January. On January 26, we kicked off the 2021 Form Your Future Series.  This series of events – three throughout the calendar year – is a community partnership across our service area, including the Jax Chamber, DCPS, NCSD, Earn Up, Year Up, City Year and UNF SOAR. The virtual event saw approximately 100 guests in attendance. It provided students and families information on the importance of financial aid and how to pay for college. As a digital event, the website remains open for on-demand viewing of the almost one-hour information session.

To close out January, we also hosted our annual FSCJ School Counselor Workshop. As has often been the case this academic year, this too was a virtual event hosted on WebEx. Over 50 school counselors from throughout the FSCJ Service Area registered for the event. The agenda included updates on service area post-secondary enrollment for DCPS and NCSD, information sessions from FSCJ programs such as Stepping StonesTRiO Student Support Services STEM and the FSCJ Honors Program. The event concluded with a student panel, featuring a discussion on learning in the time of COVID-19. In their post-program responses, counselors shared how they loved “the data shared regarding the post-secondary college enrollment for Duval & Nassau.”  Other participants commented, “Student Panel was an awesome addition” and that the event was “Very well organized and very much appreciated!”.

February is off to a torrid pace for our team as well, with partnership events taking place such as SAT Bootcamps, the High School 9:12 Baseball Classic, and a Why FSCJ event with the Jacksonville Police Athletic League.

And though it still is officially winter, Summer 2021 Open Registration begins in February. Open registration means our enrollment coaches have their calendars full with appointments from incoming students looking to complete their final steps in the onboarding process. As part of the efforts to continue to engage students and “meet them where they are,” our coaches have also started a new video series. This video series provides instructions on essential steps needed to complete enrollment. One of the first videos completed features Enrollment Coach Latesha Harris who helps explain the registration process in myFSCJ.
