Historically, the College identified and tracked institutional major priorities to monitor achievement of collegewide goals, and thus the accomplishment of the College's mission. The College administration utilizes an ongoing, integrated, institution-wide planning process to identify, prioritize and respond to the most significant needs and opportunities of the College at any point in time. The velocity of change in the College's service area, and beyond, requires ongoing situation analysis and capacity to respond with effectiveness and agility. In previous years, the College President and Cabinet of senior management developed a set of major priorities that set the course for new projects, initiatives, services and programs for the upcoming 12-36 months. Some of the major priorities carried over, connected to or spurred additional major priorities for the next year.
Major Priorities
The priorities were developed after review of national, regional, and local issues and analysis of needs in higher education and the community, as well as of internal data regarding students and services. The implementation of each priority was assigned to a specific Cabinet member, who bears primary administrative responsibility for development, execution, evaluation, and reporting on that priority. The proposed priorities were presented to the District Board of Trustees (DBOT). The figure below represents the Major Priorities process.
Major Priorities Process
The College President and Cabinet periodically reported on the status of the priorities to the DBOT. The assigned Cabinet member submitted a written status update for his or her assigned priorities to the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Accreditation (OIEA). OIEA prepared the College President and Cabinet with a complete report of the status of the priorities. The status updates of the major priorities provides the College President with a report of development and execution of each priority including this information: the purpose of the priority, the collegewide goal that is supported by the priority, a mid-year status and subsequent end-of-year status of achievement of the priority, use of College data and/or resource allocation. The College President reviewed the report and engaged the Cabinet members in discussion regarding additional resource needs, recommended changes to a major priority, or its execution. The report for each priority includes an overall evaluation of the achievement of the priority and a description of how the priority impacts the institution and supports effective accomplishment of the College mission.
The Major Priorities, along with the Performance Indicators, are part of the College Plan (PDF), updated August 2013.
