Though social distancing has continued to limit the opportunities for face-to-face engagement with prospective and incoming students, Recruitment and Admissions staff continue to engage with students in the digital world.  

Team members continue to host virtual events daily, with three main sessions offered each week: College and Career Exploration, Why FSCJ?, and Let’s Talk About Money. Each live session has the opportunity for Q&A and provides invaluable information for students who are considering FSCJ for college and their families. Additionally, FSCJ programs have had the opportunity to spotlight their academic offerings to future students. In addition to regular weekly events, on July 23, FSCJ hosted “Form Your Future: Jump-Start to College ” in partnership with community partners Earn Up, Year Up, City Year, DCPS and UNF SOAR. This event helped students prepare for their transition to college. Participants were able to hear from FSCJ representatives and peers, discover what they should be doing now to get ready, and ask questions during this interactive event.

A couple of days later, FSCJ hosted our first ever Virtual Open House, which included over 330 registered students for the event. This event provided an overview of the admissions process, a student panel, resources for students, and videos from FSCJ faculty and staff. Students also received a special message from President Avendano, and Fall Term updates from Dr. Wall. The event remains available on the Open House webpage for students to visit and view videos on-demand.

The team also hosted an event called “Return to Learn: Information and Insights for Re-Enrolling Students.” More than 100 students registered for the event. This program featured the steps FSCJ has taken and resources available to support students amid the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Finally, as we sprint toward the start of the A Session for the Fall 2020 Term, we are pleased to share that more than 5,000 students have completed our new online orientation. Launched on May 1, this dynamic and interactive orientation features videos, quizzes and more for incoming students. Faculty and staff can experience the orientation for themselves by selecting the Students tab in myFSCJ and choosing the Online Orientation link under the Useful Links section.
