The days are getting longer, the pollen is prominent and Commencement Caravans are taking place across FSCJ campuses. These signs can mean only one thing: spring is in full swing, and summer is just around the corner.

As we move into April, we’re pleased to share we closed out a busy March on a high note with our Spring Virtual Open House. The Open House, which offered “live online” and “on-demand” options, occurred on March 27 and saw almost 150 prospective students in attendance. The event provided attendees with an opportunity to receive updates from FSCJ leadership, including Dr. Avendano. One student was the lucky recipient of a $500 FSCJ Scholarship, and all attendees were able to receive a one-time application fee waiver. Student response was overwhelmingly positive. All survey respondents indicated they were “very likely” to enroll, and many others shared positive comments about the event.

Now that April is here, there is a focus on the summer term and the upcoming open registration for the Fall Term. Please visit our events page at visit.fscj.edu for a complete listing of virtual and in-person programming. Make sure to visit often as the calendar is updated regularly.  

There are a couple of outreach efforts that stand out for us in April. First, we are excited to partner with the City of Jacksonville and Workforce Industrial Training in a new program called Operation Boost! Operation Boost is a workforce readiness event that will connect students with short-term training programs designed to quickly get them connected to high-wage jobs. We will be hosting events on April 17, 22 and 24 at three different community centers in Jacksonville. These programs will feature a variety of short-term programs along with application and financial aid assistance. All attendees will receive application fee waivers and be entered into a drawing for a $500 scholarship at each event location. For more details, please visit fscj.edu/academics/operation-boost.

The second stand-out event is the Virtual National College Fair taking place on Tuesday, April 20. The fair features colleges and universities from the southeast and is open to the public. This event brings hundreds of colleges and universities together in one virtual setting. Attendees will learn about FSCJ degrees and certificates, financial aid and scholarships, career outlooks for in-demand programs, and student success resources at FSCJ. One-on-one meetings with FSCJ representatives will also be available from 3-7 p.m. To learn more, please visit fscj.edu/event/173122.  

With Summer 2021 Open Registration taking place, our Enrollment Coaches have their calendars full with appointments from incoming students looking to complete their final steps in the onboarding process. Fall Open Registration is later this month, so the team is preparing for a strong push to position new students for success in their onboarding at FSCJ. As shared in the February and March newsletters, as part of the efforts to continue to engage students and “meet them where they are,” our coaches have also started a new video series. The latest video in this series is from AavaMaria Quiroz, FSCJ enrollment coach, who shares information to help students make an advising appointment.
