SAP Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions about SAP:

ASSOCIATE IN ARTS (AA):

  • A course is considered “successfully completed” if you earn one of these grades: A, B, C, D, S (Satisfactory), or P (Passing).
  • Any other grade—like I (Incomplete), F (Fail), FN (Fail for non-attendance), NR (Not reported), or W (Withdrawn)—is not considered successful.
  • If you get an I or NR and it later changes to a passing grade (A–D), your SAP status can be updated, and your financial aid may be reinstated (as long as the change happens in the same academic year and you still meet all other requirements).
  • It is your (student) responsibility to email financialaid@fscj.edu to have them recalculate your financial aid after your I or NR grade is changed.

TECHNICAL CERTIFICATES (TC), ASSOCIATE IN SCIENCE (AS), ASSOCIATE IN APPLIED SCIENCE (AAS), and BACHELOR’S (BA, BAS, BS):

CAREER CERTIFICATE (CC):

  • A course is considered "successfully completed" with a grade of A, B, C, or D in most programs.
  • Grades such as F, W, I, or U is not considered successful.
  • Any transfer credits that apply to your current program count as both attempted hours and completed hours when calculating SAP.
  • This is why it is SO IMPORTANT that all of your transcripts are received and evaluated before registering for classes.
  • If you register for classes before all of your transcripts are evaluated, you run the risk of not qualifying for the aid you are awarded, and you may even have to return the money to Financial Aid.
  • If you repeat a class, the new grade replaces the old one when calculating your GPA for SAP.

College Credit Programs

  • At FSCJ, SAP is reviewed for all requirements at the end of each semester.

Career Certificate Programs

  • For programs longer than one year, it’s checked at least once a year.
  • For programs one year or less, it’s checked every payment period.
  • At FSCJ, SAP is reviewed after your scheduled clock hours for the payment period have passed—even if you didn’t attend all of them.
  • Log in to your MyFSCJ account
  • Click on the Financial Aid Tile
  • Choose the Financial Aid Year
    • The aid year matches the semester you are attending.
    • For example: Fall 2025, Spring 2026, and Summer 2026 would be under the 2025/2026 Financial Aid Year.
  • Click Satisfactory Academic Progress on the left side menu.
  • Your SAP status will display on screen
  • Warning means that one or both of the items listed below are true:
    • Your cumulative GPA is below 2.0
    • You have not passed at least 67% of ALL attempted credits
  • You are still eligible to receive a financial aid award during your Warning semester as a courtesy to see if you can meet the 2.0 GPA and 67% completion rate.
  • If you don’t meet SAP after your Warning term or payment period, you are considered “Not Meets” for SAP. This means you cannot receive federal financial aid for future classes.
  • If there were extenuating circumstances (like illness or other serious issues) that affected your progress, you can appeal this status to try to regain financial aid.

Yes, if you have a strong reason for not “Meeting SAP”, like an accident, medical situation, death in your immediate family, or another major challenge that was out of your control, you have the option to submit a SAP Appeal.

  • In a lifetime, yes.
  • In the same semester, no.
  • For the same program, yes
  • For the same reason, no.
    • If your SAP Appeal submitted for a Fall 2023 car accident is approved, you can submit a new SAP Appeal if you are in another car accident for a more recent semester.
    • If your SAP Appeal submitted for a Fall 2023 car accident is denied, you cannot submit a new SAP Appeal for the same Fall 2023 car accident.

SAP appeal decisions can take up to 30 business days.
