Life Cycle of the SAP Appeal Process
What does Life Cycle mean? The first to last step, and everything in between.
- You (the student) will receive an email to your MyFSCJ Student Email from the Financial Aid Office that your SAP Status has changed to “Not Meets”.
- You (the student) will reach out to a Student Success Navigator to discuss why you are in the current SAP status
- The discussion can be about # of credits to pass to bring SAP status back to Meets and/or offer the SAP appeal option.
- It is advised that you are registered in at least one class in case your SAP Appeal is approved.
- Payment arrangements for the class can include:
- Cash or Credit
- Alternative funding sources
- Tuition Installment Plan
- If your appeal is approved, and you plan to use FAFSA Loans to cover your tuition, you will need to be registered for a minimum of 6 credits to stay in compliance with your FAFSA Loan Agreement.
- Payment arrangements for the class can include:
- The Student Success Navigator will:
- Add the SAP Appeal task to your account
- You (the student) will:
- Log in to your MyFSCJ Student portal and click on Tasks
- Click on the Satisfactory Academic Progress Task item, read and follow the included instructions
- After your statement is written and documentation is gathered, schedule an appointment with your Assigned Advisor or any Academic and Career Advisor (ACA) at a campus of your choice.
- The ACA will:
- Create an Academic Degree Plan and discuss which class you are paying for to submit your appeal
- Review and sign your SAP Appeal Packet
- Provide instructions on how to submit your SAP Appeal for a decision.
- You (the student) will email your SAP Appeal packet to financialaid@fscj.edu.
- The first day to submit a SAP Appeal is the first day of the semester
- The last day to submit a SAP Appeal is 30 days after the C session starts
- Decisions can take up to 30 calendar days, and you will be notified by email in your MyFSCJ student account.
- If your Appeal is denied, then you will need to speak with a Student Success Navigator about alternative funding options and an Academic and Career Advisor about classes moving forward.
- If your Appeal is approved, then your SAP Status will be updated to Academic Plan.
- The Academic Plan status means that you must register and pass the classes listed on the Academic Degree Plan that was submitted with the SAP appeal.
- The Academic Degree Plan is a contract agreement between you and the Financial Aid office.
- The class(es) you paid for out of pocket will be reimbursed with the financial aid you are eligible for.
- As long as you successfully pass the classes on the Academic Degree Plan with a C grade* or higher and finish by the Anticipated Graduation Term, then you will be eligible to receive financial aid each semester.
* Although D grades are considered “passing” for Financial Aid Purposes, if your Program of Study requires you to retake the class and earn a C grade or higher, repeating the class with the D grade will cancel your Approved SAP Agreement.
