Professional Pilot Technology (A.S.)

Let us help you launch an exciting new career as a professional pilot with an Associate in Science (A.S.) in Professional Pilot Technology. Conveniently located at Cecil Airport in Jacksonville’s Westside, FSCJ’s Cecil Center provides an ideal location for your flight school education and flight training. You’ll move quickly from the classroom, to flight simulators and then out to the flight line. FSCJ is authorized by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to approve graduates for the Restricted Airline Transport Pilot (R-ATP) certification at a reduced number of flight hours. Through FSCJ’s A.S. in Professional Pilot Technology, individuals interested in flying for the airlines can earn a 250-hour discount toward the 1,500 hours of flight time required to be eligible for the R-ATP certificate.

We also offer the lowest flight training tuition in the area, and allow maximum use of GI Bill ® benefits for flight education and training. You may also qualify for other financial aid or scholarships. If you want to pursue a bachelor’s degree, credits from your associate degree transfer to many four-year aviation colleges and universities including  Polk State College, Jacksonville University, or Embry-Riddle.

Note: Incoming students are NOT required to have a Private Pilot license prior to beginning the program and may start this training with FSCJ during their first semester before advancing to other ratings and certifications.

Career Options

Upon graduation, students will have approximately 250 flight hours. Regional airlines require our graduates to have at least 1,250 hours to be hired, so additional hours must be built in entry-level positions: flight instruction, local cargo piloting, banner towing, aerial surveying, and small charter operations. Qualified graduates may be able to teach for Sunrise Aviation, the College’s flight training vendor, and/or the College itself as an adjunct faculty member.
