Your Professional Development…Reimagined

Nov 1, 2022, 10:58 AM

In the fall of 2015, a Professional Development Task Force convened to rethink how FSCJ delivers training and development. As a result, professional development at the College has recently been reimagined and relocated to the Office of Human Resources, taking the title Training and Organizational Development. As announced at Convocation, Marc Boese is serving as Executive Director of Organizational Development to lead this important initiative.

TRAINING.FSCJ.EDU

In support of this approach, we have dedicated training.fscj.edu as a one-stop website for employees to access professional development at FSCJ.

COMPETENCY-BASED LEARNING

The Task Force developed a foundation for professional development through the establishment of a competency-based model for all employee groups: career, administrative, professional and faculty. Competency-based training provides engaged learning opportunities linked directly to specific job responsibilities, while forwarding the mission, vision and values of our College. The model sets clear expectations and measures to meet job goals while promoting fairness and objectivity.

All professional development opportunities are intentionally designed to facilitate employee development in one or more competency areas.

In addition to professional development, the office will continue to enhance training.fscj.edu to serve as the primary access point for onboarding, wellness, compliance training, myFSCJ PeopleSoft training, personal development, management and supervision training, technology training, and the newly formed Academy of Teaching and Learning.

The Academy for Teaching and Learning consists of faculty members representing each School of the College. They will gather input from the faculty to create professional development that is meaningful, accessible and connected to the competencies.

Another way we are engaging employees is through the formation of a Training and Organizational Development Advisory Committee to gain insight into the training and development needs of all employee groups at FSCJ. This process has been, and will continue to be, an ongoing creative collaboration between our department and the College community.
