The Administrative & Professional Collaborative (APC) is the representative voice for the Administrative & Professional employees of FSCJ. In an effort to build cohesiveness, awareness and collegiality, each month we put a “spotlight” on one of our members.

Shannon Dew is the Director of Library Services at FSCJ, where she has served for over a decade, beginning as the Associate Dean of the Deerwood Center Library and Learning Commons. In her current Collegewide role, she provides strategic leadership in library services, overseeing both campus and online operations to support student success and faculty needs. Shannon collaborates with academic divisions and departments to integrate information resources and instructional technologies, ensuring the library’s active role in the College’s educational mission.

With more than 20 years of professional experience in library and information sciences, Shannon holds a bachelor's from Michigan State University and a Master in Information Resources and Library Science from the University of Arizona. Before joining FSCJ, she gained extensive experience working in public and school libraries. Shannon's influence extends beyond the College as she collaborates with state and national organizations, including the American Library Association, Northeast Florida Library Information Network and the Association of College and Research Libraries.

In addition to her leadership at FSCJ, Shannon is a strong advocate for advancing educational accessibility, particularly in the areas of textbook affordability. She provides visionary leadership in the library’s involvement in FSCJ’s open education resources (OER) and textbook affordability initiatives to promote low- or no-cost learning materials through OER adoption and creation. Her dedication to these efforts is further reflected in her contributions to professional committees such as the Florida Virtual Campus (FLVC) Textbook Affordability and Open Educational Resources Standing Committee (TAOER), the FLVC OER Summit Planning Committee and serving as FSCJ’s team lead for the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) Institute for Open Educational Resources during their inaugural year.

Shannon enjoys spending time with her family and traveling the world to experience new cultures. Her favorite trip so far has been to Croatia, which she highly recommends. However, she treasures her time with her young son the most, embracing the joys of birthday parties, play dates and school events, knowing the years go by too quickly.

Our spotlight shines on each campus/center at least once a year. Nominations for the spotlight may be directed to your campus representative or any officer. Learn more about APC here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1024098564929654.
