Jim was honored at the 2016 Commencement Ceremony where he was formally recognized and presented with an award by President Bioteau.

As one of our first students, Jim began his college career at what was then Florida Junior College. He graduated as a member of the second graduating class in 1969 with an Associate in Arts. He later earned a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Florida (UF) in 1971.

After completing his undergraduate work at UF, Jim began his professional career as an instructor at Ribault High School where he taught for five years. During that time, he continued his education at the University of North Florida (UNF), where he completed a master’s degree in education in 1976.

Later that year, Jim moved on to GT Leasing, an automotive leasing company and one of the oldest commercial leasing companies in the country. He serves as the company’s board chairman. During his time with GT Leasing, he has served as the chairman of the National Vehicle Leasing Association’s (NVLA) Florida Chapter from 1996-2000, and also the NVLA’s National Board of Directors from 1996-97.

Jim has also been very involved with the community over the years, serving as a member of the FSCJ Foundation Board of Directors from 2004-11 and the board chairman in 2011. He served as tournament chairman in 1989 for The Players Championship and as captain of past chairmen from 2003-05. Additionally, Jim served as a member of the Vestry for Redeemer Episcopal Church from 1994-97 and again from 2001-03.

Jim and his wife Carla have four children: Chris, Jason, Jamie and Brittany, who have given them six grandchildren.
