FSCJ Author Series Events Announced

Jun 9, 2022, 12:45 PM

Throughout the 2017 Spring Term, FSCJ's annual Author Series Learning Community will center around Dr. Temple Grandin’s book, "Thinking in Pictures: My Life with Autism." This learning community will feature academic discussion and events that relate to celebrating and supporting the unique talents of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

FSCJ faculty, staff, students and members of the public are encouraged to take part in events based on the memoir to promote academic discourse and leave a lasting positive impact upon our College and community.

Dr. Grandin, considered the most accomplished and well-known adult with autism in the world, has been featured on National Public Radio as well as major television programs such as ABC's Primetime Live and 20/20. Her fascinating story has also been the subject of a 2010 film. In “Thinking in Pictures: My Life with Autism,” Dr. Grandin explores a variety of topics related to autism, including animal behavior, religion and visual thought, among others. In addition to participating in FSCJ Author Series events, we encourage our faculty to adopt the book for use and discussion during Spring Term classes.

Dr. Grandin will visit FSCJ on March 14. She is scheduled to speak at both Kent and South Campuses. Her presentation will help increase awareness and understanding of autism. The events are free and open to the public. Visit our FSCJ Author Series webpage to view all events scheduled this spring. For more information, contact Dr. Mary Lee Cunill at (904) 701-7967.
