On August 27, Florida College System (FCS) Chancellor Kathy Hebda, along with FCS Foundation Board of Directors Chair Karen Moore and FCS Foundation President Judy Green, presented a check for $46,040 to be distributed among three student scholarships.

Of the total check amount, the Bank of America Dream Makers Scholarship received $5,701, which is to be awarded to first generation students to cover tuition, books, fees, transportation and child care.

The Florida Blue Nursing and Allied Health Scholarship received $14,839. This scholarship supports students in Nursing and Allied Health Programs at Florida Colleges to meet the growing need for skilled nurses and allied health professionals in the state. The gift represents FSCJ’s fractional share of the spend from a $5 million endowment with the FCS Foundation, which was established by a $2.5 million gift from the Blue Foundation, and matched with an appropriation from the State Legislature of $5 million. The endowment has provided over $3.5 million in scholarships to nearly 8,000 students.

The remaining $25,500 will support the Helios Education Foundation First Generation Scholarship which is also given to first generation students for tuition, books and fees. The gift represents FSCJ’s fractional share of an aggregate gift to the FCS Foundation. Priority is given to students who take the Life Skills Course in their first year.
