Health Education Systems, Inc. Admissions Test (HESI-A2)

The HESI A2 is a computerized exam used to evaluate prospective students wishing to enter some of FSCJ’s health career programs. It assesses the academic skills students need to succeed in these programs.

The exam consists of nine tests:

  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Grammar
  • Math
  • Reading Comprehension
  • Vocabulary
  • Learning Styles
  • Personality Style

Students seeking admissions into the programs below are required to complete all nine sections of the HESI A2 in one testing administration. Students should verify all program requirements by checking with their intended program before taking the HESI A2. Each program’s webpage can be accessed through the links below:

The HESI is administered by appointment only. Candidates may schedule a testing appointment by accessing FSCJ’s online appointment scheduling system. You will need to create an Evolve user account prior to your appointment. You must bring this user name and password to the exam appointment and any retests.

You will make two non-refundable payments for your exam.

  • FSCJ Testing Administration Fee--$60
  • HESI Exam Fee--$50 (subject to change)

The HESI A2 exam may be taken once in a 90-day period with a maximum of three times within a twelve-month period. Testing more frequently will cause your scores to be invalid. HESI A2 scores expire after 2 years.

On the day of your appointment, please arrive at least 15 minutes early to allow time for check-in. You must have a current driver’s license/State ID and your Evolve user name and password. The HESI A2 takes approximately 4 hours to complete.

Remote students should send an email to requesting information on taking the HESI A2 test as a remote student. You will receive a reply to your email request within one business day.

  • Anatomy and Physiology –general terminology and anatomical structures and systems
  • Biology--biology basics, water, biological molecules, metabolism, cells, cellular respiration and photosynthesis
  • Chemistry—chemical equations and reactions, the periodic table, atomic structure, nuclear chemistry, chemical bonding
  • Grammar—basic grammar, parts of speech, important terms and their uses in grammar, commonly occurring grammatical errors
  • Math—basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, decimals, ratio and proportion, household measures and general math facts
  • Reading Comprehension—identifying main idea, finding the meaning of a word in context, passage comprehension, making logical inferences
  • Vocabulary—basic vocabulary often used in health care fields
  • Learning Styles—preferred learning style
  • Personality Style—personality related to preferred learning style

Your exam results will display on the screen at the completion of your exam. You will also be able to access your score report from your Evolve account.
