Shorten the time it takes to earn your degree.

Taking the Defense Activity Test and Examination Services Subject Standardized Tests (DSST) can shorten the time it takes to earn your degree, can allow you to skip general introductory courses, and can even satisfy a proficiency requirement by demonstrating that you've already mastered the content. The DSST can reduce the number of courses you need to graduate, saving hundreds of dollars in tuition. The DSST is the second most widely accepted credit-by-examination program. The DSST offers a way to receive credit for “what you know.”

The Defense Activity Test and Examination Services Subject Standardized Tests (DSST) program allows candidates to earn college credit through testing. There are over 25 DSST exams available in the areas of business, humanities, math, physical science, social sciences, and technology. Here is a complete  .

At the time of testing, you will need to provide a site code for the institution where you would like your score report sent. The College’s DSST site code is 8621. If you are testing for another institution, you can locate the site code here.

2-hour time limit

Students are required to pay a $30 (cash or credit/debit card) sitting fee to FSCJ and a $100 (credit or debit card only) testing fee to the test vendor. Both payments will be made at the time of the testing appointment.

DSST exams are available to FSCJ students and community members, unless they have already taken the same DSST exam within the past three months.

A current, valid government-issued photo ID.

None

You may retake any of the DSST exams as many times as you like as long as you wait 90 days between tests. The fees for retaking a test are the same as for the first test.

FSCJ will enter all passing exams on the official score report, unless the student submits in writing a request for specific exams to be awarded prior to receiving the score report.

Your score results are mailed to you by DSST approximately 4-6 weeks after you take the test. When you take the DSST, you will be given the option of having your scores sent to Florida State College at Jacksonville or another institution for evaluation, as well as to your home. If you have taken the DSST and need your scores sent to FSCJ, call (877) 471-9860.

None. FSCJ will provide all testing materials.
