The Downtown Investment Authority approved a deal that will send $1.2 million to construct student housing in Downtown for Florida State College at Jacksonville.

The seven-block walk from 20 W. Adams St. to Florida State College at Jacksonville’s downtown campus goes past Chamblin’s Uptown book store, Hemming Park, the Main Library, the Museum of Contemporary Art, City Hall and the First Baptist Church campus.

Investing in student housing may seem like an odd choice for a community college like Florida State College at Jacksonville – but, according to several school officials, the move is a logical one for the longtime Jacksonville institution.
