The initiative is part of a global day of donating called Giving Tuesday. FSCJ will give all donated items to five local charities.
The college is accepting donations of toys, blankets and nonperishable foods at its six college campuses. Each campus is asking for a certain kind of donation:
*Cecil Center: 5640 New World Avenue, new, unwrapped toys for all ages to benefit Toys for Tots.
*Downtown Campus: 101 W. State Street, new, twin sheet sets for Lutheran Social Services
*Kent Campus: 3939 Roosevelt blvd, new, unwrapped toys for all ages to benefit Toys for Tots
*North Campus: 4501 Capper Road, new, unwrapped toys for all ages, benefiting Wolfson Children's Hospital
*Open Campus/Deerwood Campus: 9911 Old Baymeadows Road, nonperishable food benefiting Feeding Northeast Florida
*South Campus: 11901 Beach Blvd., new baby blankets benefiting Community Connections
"It's the perfect time to say how can I give of myself, how can I give to my community, how can I give back to those around me to make our space a better place?" explained Dr. Cynthia Bioteau, President of FSCJ. "FSCJ is excited to culminate our 50th anniversary of being who we are as a community college by giving back to our community."
Also, through a generous tree donation from Green Releaf, a partnership between JEA and Greenscape of Jacksonville, 200 new trees will be planted on FSCJ campuses Tuesday to improve the environmental surroundings and ecological impact of each campus.
