FCN: FSCJ participates in #GivingTuesday

We've shopped in the stores and we've shopped online for Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but Tuesday, the holiday shopping focuses on a global day dedicated to giving back.

'Giving Tuesday' was created by a NYC non-profit organization four years ago. The social media movement is encouraging people across the country to give back in any way they can. In 2014, the ev        ent raised close to $46 million in charitable donations

Florida State College at Jacksonville is one of several colleges across the Sunshine State participating #GivingTuesday. The college is celebrating its 50th anniversary in connection with the global campaign initiative. Volunteers will collect items on behalf of local non-profits from 6:30 a.m. to noon.

You can drop off donations at the following locations:

  • New and unwrapped toys can be dropped off in front of the flagpole at the Cecil Center, located at 5640 New World Ave. These will benefit Toys for Tots. Toys for Tots donations for can also be dropped off at the Kent Campus entrances located at Roosevelt Blvd. and Park St.
  • New twin sheet sets can be dropped of at the northeast corner of the Downtown Campus parking lot 4, located at Laura and Bethel Baptist Street. The sheets will benefit Lutheran Social Services.
  • The North Campus, located at 4501 Capper Road, will collect new and unwrapped toys to benefit Wolfson Children's Hospital. Items can be dropped off in the parking lot outside of Building C.
  • Non-perishable food items can be dropped off at the upper-level parking garage at the Open Campus/Deerwood Center, located at 9911 Old Baymeadows Road. These items will benefit Feeding Northeast Florida.
  • New baby blankets can be dropped off at the Nathan H. Wilson Center for the Arts parking lot on the South Campus, located at 11901 Beach Blvd. These items will benefit Community Connections.

People are encourage to use the hashtag #GivingTuesday when participating in any of the events. Click here to learn more about #GivingTuesday and how you can help.
