“Continuous improvement”
At the recent annual meeting of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) in Nashville, Tennessee, that phrase, “continuous improvement,” was constantly discussed, debated and defined. The same is true every day in Florida State College at Jacksonville’s (FSCJ) Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Accreditation (OIEA), which is responsible for compiling evidence of continuous improvement throughout the College. Like every other academic and non-academic unit, OIEA must also demonstrate continuous improvement in its own procedures and operations.
To that end, over the next term, OIEA will be critically examining every aspect of the Institutional Effectiveness outcomes assessment process in order to make it more meaningful and rewarding to stakeholders throughout the College. All aspects of the assessment process will be up for discussion, including the design of rubrics used to review and provide feedback to Effectiveness Process Facilitators (EPFs) and FSCJ’s current assessment management software system, WEAVE Online. To do this, we need your help.
While examining outcomes assessment will be ongoing, we plan to kick off the process review with a day-long mini-conference, “Working Smarter: Re-Imagining Assessment,” for faculty, instructional program managers and deans. Mark your calendars now to join us on Friday, February 27 at FSCJ Kent Campus. You will have an opportunity to learn about program changes, participate in focus groups to discuss the strengths and weakness of our current assessment process and offer your suggestions for improving the process, as well as attend skill-building workshops to hone your approach to FSCJ assessment. Lunch will be provided. If you don’t fall into this first group, additional focus groups are being scheduled in the future. Watch for your opportunity to participate.
The OIEA staff are rolling up their sleeves in anticipation of some pretty heavy lifting, namely the continuous improvement of the outcomes assessment process. We look forward to collaborating with you throughout the review.
