JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – FSCJ’s most recent group of Dental Hygiene graduates achieved a 100 percent pass rate on the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination (NBDHE) and scored in the 90th percentile in the nation.
“We are truly proud of the success of each of our students as it takes immense commitment and hard work to achieve such a great accomplishment,” said FSCJ Instructional Program Manager Dr. Jeff Smith. “We strive to provide the most advanced curriculum and practical hands-on training to prepare these students at a competitive level, but it is their individual determination that produces such impressive results.”
The examination, which is a computerized, comprehensive test required for licensure in all 50 states, assesses the ability of the student to understand important information from basic biomedical, dental and dental hygiene sciences, as well as the ability to apply such information in a problem-solving context. In addition, FSCJ’s students had a 91 percent success rate on the ADEX clinical licensing examination, a requirement for state licensure.
The Dental Hygiene program is a limited access, 20-month program that is located at FSCJ’s North Campus. The bulk of the students’ clinical education takes place in the Dental Hygiene Clinic, where patients from the community receive oral hygiene services from students under the supervision of licensed dentists and dental hygienists.
