JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida State College at Jacksonville’s (FSCJ) Forensics team earned impressive victories last month in two state championships for speech and debate. At the Florida Intercollegiate Forensics Association (FIFA) State Championship, students beat competitors from the University of Florida, Florida State University, the University of Central Florida and other colleges to gain some of the competition’s highest honors.
Tallahassee Community College hosted the competition on February 24 - 26. FSCJ’s Forensics team achieved the following results:
- Adonis Lane: State champion in both Prose and Poetry Interpretation, 3rd place in After Dinner Speaking, 3rd place in Program Oral Interpretation
- Madeline Windsor and Samantha Radomski: State champions in Duo Interpretation
- ·Samantha Radomski: 6th place in Prose Interpretation
- Ashley Blanding: 2nd place in Poetry Interpretation, 4th place in Dramatic Interpretation
- Reagan McGuire: 2nd place in Program Oral Interpretation
- Nicki Ercolino: 5th place in Dramatic Interpretation
Additionally, the team placed 2nd in Readers Theatre and 5th overall in the state.
FSCJ’s South Campus hosted the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) State Championship on February 2 – 4. Community and state college students in their first or second year of competition participated. FSCJ’s Forensics team placed second in the state overall and achieved the following excellent results:
- Kathleen Patti: 2nd place in After Dinner Speaking, 5th place in Impromptu Speaking
- Chris Carlson: 3rd place in After Dinner Speaking
- Ashley Blanding: 4th place in both Dramatic and Poetry Interpretation, 7th place in Program Oral Interpretation
- Cephas Bradley: 5th place in both Dramatic and Prose Interpretation
- Reagan McGuire: 3rd place in Prose Interpretation, 6th place in Program Oral Interpretation
The team’s final tournament of the season will be the national championship in April, hosted by the University of Wisconsin.
