The Career Employees' Council (CEC) is the representative voice for the Career employees of FSCJ, with the goal to be committed to the continuous development of a collaborative work environment whereby the value and respect of Career employees are elevated through increased recognition, involvement and opportunities to achieve a higher degree of excellence. In this spirit, we put a "spotlight" on one of our members each month.
July’s Career Employees' Council Spotlight recognizes Jennifer Grey, a dedicated and dynamic Career Employee who has been awarded the CEC Recognition of Excellence Award for her outstanding contributions to FSCJ!
Thirteen Years of Dedication: Since joining FSCJ in April 2012, Jennifer has worn many hats—and worn them well. As she approaches her 13-year anniversary, her impact on the Library and Learning Commons (LLC) and beyond is both profound and far-reaching.
A Job as Diverse as Her Talents: “It’s a hodgepodge,” she says—and what a wonderful hodgepodge it is. From organizing events and managing the LLC’s social media and marketing, to overseeing patron records, interlibrary loan services, and annual inventories, her work touches nearly every corner of the department. She also serves as the steward of FSCJ’s history through her management of the College Archives, carefully collecting and cataloging materials that tell the story of who we are.
Loving the Variety: What does she love most about her job? “The variety,” she shares. “In any given day, my work can swing from analyzing a highly technical problem to working creatively with graphic design to doing historical research about the win-loss record of our athletics teams.” No two days are the same, and that’s just the way she likes it.
Living the Mission of the CEC: Jennifer exemplifies the spirit of the CEC Recognition of Excellence Award through her regular collaboration across departments, her support for students and fellow employees, and her passion for enriching the campus experience. From coordinating LLC events to helping launch AMH 2071: History of Jacksonville alongside Dr. Scott Matthews, to enhancing campus spaces with inspiring murals—her work is as purposeful as it is impactful.
Involved and Invested: Beyond her daily duties, she contributes to the 60th Anniversary Committee, where she combs through FSCJ’s vast collection of press clippings to create a timeline of our rich institutional history—often resulting in surprise emails to colleagues with fun historical tidbits!
Community-Minded (In Her Own Way): While she doesn’t volunteer in a traditional sense, she brings local history professionals together to discuss Jacksonville’s past as part of her continued work with Dr. Matthews—an effort that reflects her deep commitment to both scholarship and community.
Beyond the Bookshelves: When she’s not at work—or working on a stipend project—you’ll likely find Jennifer catching up on sleep, reading (naturally!), watching movies with friends, baking just-for-fun creations, or taking photos. “How did you think I wound up in the library?” she jokes.
Our spotlight seeks to showcase a CEC representative from each campus/center at least once a year.
