The Career Employees' Council (CEC) is the representative voice for
the Career employees of FSCJ, with the goal to be committed to the
continuous development of a collaborative work environment whereby the
value and respect of Career employees are elevated through increased
recognition, involvement and opportunities to achieve a higher degree of
excellence. In this spirit, we put a "spotlight" on one of our members
each month

April’s Career Employees' Council Spotlight recognizes E-Learning Services Coordinator Christina Perrin for her exceptional, admirable work and commitment to her department and FSCJ. Ms. Perrin has been a loyal employee of FSCJ for over 5 years. She began her career at FSCJ as a student assistant before transitioning to a part-time position as a test proctor and eventually onboarded full-time as an administrative assistant II with the Contact Center. Prior to her current position, she was also an enrollment coach in Admissions and a project coordinator with CWE.
Christina’s core responsibility in her current role is to focus on providing support to the Center for E-Learning (CeL) leadership team and staff in order to help facilitate the development of FSCJ's online courses. Online course development involves a thorough analysis of course review and implementation in Canvas and, in general, lots of moving parts from inception to completion. She assists the team by providing integral support in areas that ensure quality assurance is met in Canvas. This includes, but is certainly not limited to, reviewing the course Canvas shells for consistency with required supplemental materials, proofreading and editing each learning module, completing textbook correlations to ensure our instructors and students are utilizing the latest books and resources, verifying that the rubrics are up to standard and can be applied to the learning, reviewing course outcomes maps to ensure that the learning objectives are applicable and are also being met within each module, collaborating with the team to improve course structures and processes, and more.
What Christina likes most about her job is that it allows her to dive deeper into and observe the intricacies and meticulous nature of developing online courses. Even simply being exposed to the world of online course development has been eye-opening and clarifying for how online instruction is executed in Canvas. In addition to the required content for students, there are so many additional pieces that have to be included within a Canvas shell - integration of third-party platforms, internal and external policies, resource availability, references, rubrics, the application of Quality Matters and plenty more.
Christina enjoys her work with the CeL as there is a lot of detail that goes into the development of these online classes, and it often starts with collaborative efforts and understanding amongst the team with various departments and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) who come together and discuss their vision for a proposed course. The end goal is to always provide an informative, polished and quality online educational experience for both faculty and students.
She meets the objectives of the CEC by continuing to support her fellow colleagues in their environment and by encouraging professional pursuits within the College. She believes that as employees, we have a voice that matters, and it's imperative that we understand, uplift and support one another in order to succeed individually and collectively.
Christina is a proud Manta Ray alumni as a graduate of FSCJ, having earned a Bachelor of Science in Converged Communications, which is now known as the Communications in Media program. She is currently deciding on a program for her masters.
Christina describes herself as “quite the homebody these days,” as she has been enjoying my peace and serenity there. She enjoys content on Paramount Plus, such as Elsbeth and Matlock. She also loves Tubi, has an obsession with Planetary Science, enjoys most (but not all) horror movies, and, shamefully, she notes that she has an insane backlog of purchased books that she desperately needs to read.
Our spotlight seeks to showcase a CEC representative from each campus/center at least once a year. Nominations for the spotlight may be directed to the CEC Publicity Committee Chair Vanessa Gordon at CEC@fscj.edu.
