The Career Employees' Council (CEC) is the representative voice for the Career employees of FSCJ, with the goal to be committed to the continuous development of a collaborative work environment whereby the value and respect of Career employees are elevated through increased recognition, involvement and opportunities to achieve a higher degree of excellence. In this spirit, we put a "spotlight" on one of our members each month.

December’s Career Employees' Council (CEC) Spotlight illuminates Natural Sciences Lab Manager and Vice Chair of the Career Employees' Council Ron Elmore.

Vice Chair Elmore has been employed at FSCJ for three years. In his role as Natural Sciences Lab Manager at Kent Campus, he manages the daily operations of academic science laboratories, including supplies, inventory, budget, service contracts, regulatory requirements, preventive maintenance of electronic equipment, project collaboration with other departments and faculty, packaging biological specimen, preparing chemicals/media for student labs and safety / hazardous waste management, and more.

What Ron enjoys most about his job is the people he works with and the diversity within the job itself. He meets the objectives of the CEC by exemplifying the primary purpose of the CEC, which is to promote the welfare of career employees and the College as a whole. In serving on multiple CEC and FSCJ committees over the past few years and by being a vocal advocate of career employees as a CEC Campus Representative, Mr. Elmore says, "I have met and hopefully exceeded the expectations of the CEC's core objectives (as stated in our by-laws)."

Ron has a Bachelor of Science in Biobehavioral Science and two Associate in Science degrees, one in Nursing and one in Child Psychology. Mr. Elmore also served this nation for 11 years and is a Veteran of the Air Force with extensive training in medical and humanitarian services. He earned military certificates in Business Management and Military Leadership.

At FSCJ, he is a member of the Academic Safety Process Team (or ASPT Committee) and the Chemical Hygiene Committee. These are in addition to the EBAC committee, HR Committee, and previously, the Election Committee within the CEC. Throughout the year, he volunteers for events that serve disabled or homeless veterans. He also supports the DAV, Mission House, the Humane Society and St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

When Ron is not at FSCJ, he enjoys visiting his family, playing with his dog, named Dude, and going to his happy place, the beach, when he is not traveling.
