The Career Employees' Council (CEC) is the representative voice for the Career employees of FSCJ, with the goal to be committed to the continuous development of a collaborative work environment whereby the value and respect of Career employees are elevated through increased recognition, involvement and opportunities to achieve a higher degree of excellence. In this spirit, we put a "spotlight" on one of our members each month.

May's CEC Spotlight illuminates Administration Support Manger, Janet “Jace” Christovich. Jace joined FSCJ as a member of the FSCJ Open Campus Team in the fall of 2012 in a temporary, part-time position as project coordinator for then Open Campus VP Jana Kooi. Through the past eleven years, both the online structure and her own responsibilities have evolved to include administrative support roles for Campus Operations, the Deerwood Campus Dean, FSCJ Online and many Deerwood departments and college initiatives.

The team Jace leads manages the Campus Resource Center, supporting all campus departments and staff; the Faculty Resource Center which responds to the needs and programs of Deerwood full-time and adjunct faculty; and the mailroom, duplicating services, and student and faculty program support. In alignment with the 50th Anniversary in 2015, Jace supported the opening of the Gallery at Deerwood and her team works with the College curator to engage local artists in exhibitions that align with current events and faculty curriculum.”

She also coordinates many campus events and activities in collaboration with individual departments, committees, student groups and the Campus Dean. On the online side, her team completes upwards of 1,200 overrides each term and responds to student needs and requests related to their online classes. Jace enjoys the ability to bring creative ideas and energy to College projects and working with the absolutely awesome Deerwood Center team. Jace noted, “While sometimes challenging and a heavy demand, there is always something great happening and an opportunity to make a positive difference for students, faculty, staff and prospective FSCJ enrollments each and every day.”

Jace meets the objectives of the CEC by being a positive voice for Career employees. She said, “I do my best to champion causes and messaging that can improve the work experience of our frontline employees."

Jace herself has an A.S. from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, in what was back in the 1970s labeled commercial art and graphic communications, complimented by 35+ years of marketing, communications and development experience before joining FSCJ in an administrative role.

When not at FSCJ, Jace is an avid gardener, loves to read (and write creatively) and always has an art or craft project in progress somewhere in her house or yard.  She loves a nice cup of tea and an uplifting movie – or crime show or classic thriller. Jace spends lots of time with her family and shares that she specifically moved from her beloved Baton Rouge back to her hometown in 2002 to spend more time with them at the beach – a priority goal for 2024! She also volunteers at her church, and is actively engaged in addressing community issues including disaster preparedness, homeless support, mental health, addiction and safety in our schools.

Jace says that, while she will always bleed LSU Purple and Gold and loudly war chant for the Seminoles, FSCJ has her heart and dedication!

Our spotlight seeks to showcase a CEC representative from each campus/center at least once a year. Nominations for the spotlight may be directed to the CEC Publicity Committee Chair Vanessa Gordon at CEC@fscj.edu.
