January 2024 Recruitment Update

Jan 16, 2024, 14:11 PM by Amanda Burgess

FSCJ hosted more than a dozen public, private and charter high schools for student experience tours during the Fall Term, highlighting educator, counselor and future student interest. Wanting to see and learn more, Baker County High School (BCHS) visited twice during the term. The BCHS Wildcats brought 50 students to participate in the Manufacturing, Automotive and Construction (MAC) Career Day at the Advanced Technology Center. With interest piqued by the MAC Day, BCHS counselors requested to come back to campus for a tour. BCHS returned in December with approximately 45 students for an additional day of campus discovery, focusing on workforce programs. Seniors within the group participated in an application lab prior to leaving campus.

Additional December outreach:
•    6 individual campus tours
•    30 recruitment events conducted/attended
•    1,016 future student interactions

The simplified Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) had a soft launch on December 31, 2023. While early filers have experienced glitches with the new, shortened FAFSA, recent StudentAid.gov communications said user experience and functionality continues to improve. Duval County Public Schools students will receive financial aid assistance via the Bringing Economic and Career Opportunities Nearer (BEACON) Program this month and next.
