The Administrative & Professional Collaborative (APC) is the representative voice for the Administrative & Professional employees of FSCJ.

In an effort to build cohesiveness, awareness and collegiality, each month we put a “spotlight” on one of our members. March's Administrative & Professional Collaborative (APC) spotlight shines on Renata Henderson.

Dr. Renata JM Henderson serves as the Associate Dean of Nursing. She began her career in higher education in 2007 as a Professor of Nursing and transitioned to her current role in August 2022. In collaboration with the Dean of Nursing, she provides strategic leadership to ensure that the College’s vision, mission and values are foundational in guiding decision-making and actions within the nursing department. Dr. Henderson assists with advancing the instructional programs and curricula and provides an environment that fosters positive attitudes, recognition, creativity and opportunities for professional growth among faculty and adjunct instructors.

In addition, she is always looking for opportunities to establish and strengthen relationships with clinical partners, expand programs, participating in evaluation and data collection efforts to ensure compliance with accrediting and professional licensing bodies. She is student-centered and appreciates the opportunity to work closely with students and stay attuned to their needs, creating the best possible educational environment to help them grow personally and professionally while encouraging and inspiring the next generation of nurses.

In addition to serving on many Collegewide committees, she participated on teams and taskforces within local hospital organizations. Dr. Henderson serves on the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) as a peer evaluator, Evaluation Review Panel and is an Appeal Committee member. She is committed to strengthening the quality of nursing education through accreditation. In 2019, she joined Northeast Florida’s Great 100 Nurses class and was recognized and honored for her commitment to nursing education.

Her research interests include enhancing health literacy, as everyone has the right to understandable health information to make informed decisions that benefit health, longevity and quality of life.

Before transitioning to higher education, Dr. Henderson served for more than twenty-five years in health care, including progressive care, critical care, hospital nursing supervisor and administrative leadership.

Dr. Henderson holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University. She earned a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Phoenix and a Doctor of Nursing Practice-Nurse Executive degree from the University of Central Florida.

Outside of her professional life, Dr. Henderson and her husband, Khristoper, are the super proud parents of a young man, Khris II, and a young woman, Karrington, who are both amazing. An incredible memory and celebratory moment in 2022 was when she earned a doctorate, her son a bachelor’s degree, and her daughter, while dually enrolled at FSCJ, earned her high school diploma and associate degree, all within weeks of each other.

She enjoys spending time with family and close friends and travels for leisure. She delights in the opportunity to listen to live music and comedy. She always has time for great conversation, service learning with nursing students, and serving the community as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®.

Our spotlight shines on each campus/center at least once a year. Nominations for the spotlight may be directed to your campus representative or any officer. Learn more about APC on our website, http://blogs.fscj.edu/apcollaborative.
