On September 17, 2015, FSCJ South Campus held its seventh annual Constitution Awareness Day at the Nathan H. Wilson Center for the Arts.

This year, a panel of local experts discussed the 10th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution dictating states’ rights and powers.

More than 80 participants attended the discussion that ranged from voting rights to the current confederate flag controversy. Panelists included Neil Henrichsen, chair of the Democratic Party of Duval County, Lake Ray, Florida Representative for District 12 and chair of the Republican Party of Duval County, Ashish Bajaj, vice president of the League of Women Voters, and Dr. Marcella Washington, FSCJ South Campus professor of Political Science.

Dr. Washington and Dr. JoAnn Carpenter, moderator of the discussion and FSCJ South Campus professor of History, have led the Constitution Awareness Day events at South Campus for the past few years and have always brought the U.S. Constitution to life for the audience by showing its relevance in today’s society. FSCJ commemorates the signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787 in compliance with a federal mandate.
