FSCJ will be closed for spring break from Monday, March 17 – Sunday, March 23, 2025. We look forward to serving you when we return on March 24.
September is here and with it comes the lead up to one of the busiest times of the year for the Recruitment and Admissions team! In partnership with our colleagues in Duval County Public Schools (DCPS) and Nassau County School District (NCSD), our team is scheduling visits and events daily with high schools throughout the service area.
This month kicks off with a variety of events, including Financial Aid Nights, Parent and College Nights and "Why FSCJ" presentations. At the end of September, FSCJ will also be hosting our annual Principal & Counselor Breakfast at the ATC. This event provides an opportunity for FSCJ to share updates and collaborate with our colleagues in DCPS and NCSD. The 2019 program will feature presentations from College President Dr. John Avendano, VP for Student Services Dr. Linda Herlocker, and a data share that will highlight student behavior trends in post-secondary enrollment, FAFSA completion, and more.
With October just a few weeks away, our events calendar will continue to fill up with a variety of events throughout the service area. Two notable annual events scheduled in October include the NACAC National College Fair on Saturday, October 12 at the Prime Osborn Convention Center and the BEACON (Bringing Economic And Career Opportunities Nearer) training event on Friday, October 25.
What is BEACON? It is an opportunity for volunteers to meet with DCPS students to help them prepare for their financial and educational future beyond high school. Volunteers need not be financial aid experts as basic training is provided for anyone who wishes to meet with students to assist them in exploring their post-secondary options. If you are interested in becoming a BEACON volunteer, email welcome@fscj.edu.
Finally, while new student outreach ramps up in the fall, efforts to assist students in their transition to FSCJ for the spring term continue with regularly scheduled on-campus orientation programming. This calendar is updated each month with locations for each campus so students can choose an option that is most convenient for them. Students may also choose to participate in an optional online orientation program as well. While this optional orientation model will continue to provide opportunities for students entering in the Spring and Summer 2020 Terms, respectively, work has launched on the development of a brand new, mandatory online orientation program that will impact all students entering the Fall 2020 Term. The expectation is that the new orientation will launch May 1, 2020, for all new students. Additional information and updates will be provided as we draw closer to the launch date, so continue to read the BlueWave Newsletter for highlights.
