Fall is in full swing, and for Recruitment and Admissions, that means an increased focus on our partnerships with our K-12 school partners along with a forward-looking gaze toward the Spring 2021 Term.
As has now become a tradition, FSCJ hosted our 5th Annual Principals and Counselors Meeting for service area partners in Duval and Nassau counties on September 23. This year’s program was a two-part event, with recorded videos made available two weeks before the live virtual event. Principals and counselors had the opportunity to watch videos from FSCJ faculty, staff and students as their schedules allowed and then joined the live event on the 23rd for additional presentations and conversations. Both the pre-recorded and live presentations remain available on the event homepage for viewing.
Team members have also continued to participate in several outreach events, with a mix of virtual and in-person events scheduled throughout October and November. All in-person events have limited capacity and include strict adherence to CDC guidelines for social-distancing to protect both staff and guests in attendance. These events include popular topics such as College and Career Exploration, Application Assistance and Financial Aid Nights. Please go to visit.fscj.edu to see our full schedule of events, which is updated regularly.
In addition to regular weekly events, on Sunday, October 18, FSCJ will participate in the NACAC National College Fair. Free and open to the public, NACAC fairs connect students to hundreds of colleges and universities in one location. This event traditionally occurs at the Prime Osborn Convention Center. However, due to social-distancing guidelines, the event will take place online this year. FSCJ will host virtual information sessions from noon to 2 p.m. and provide one-on-one meetings with recruiters from 2-8 p.m. Interested students can register by visiting virtualcollegefairs.org.
A couple of weeks after the NACAC National College Fair, FSCJ will host our second Virtual Open House house of the year on Friday, October 30. This event will provide an overview of the admissions process, a student panel, resources for students and videos from FSCJ faculty and staff. Students can learn more and register at visit.fscj.edu/event/146530.
Finally, as we look ahead toward the Spring 2021 Term, we are pleased to share we are adding additional programming to our already established Online Orientation. Starting on October 22, we will host weekly First-Year Experience Registration Events both online and in-person. These events will provide students more information on the required IDS1107 course: Strategies for the Pursuit of Knowledge. During this event, students will receive important information on IDS 1107 class topics as well as a live demonstration on how to register for the class. Later this fall, we will host our first Family Orientation programs for family members of accepted students.
