Keith Walters, recent graduate from FSCJ, took a few moments to express his appreciation to Dr. Bioteau for the knowledge and experience he received from FSCJ as a whole.

It is always rewarding and encouraging to hear from our students who contribute their success to the faculty, staff and curriculum of FSCJ.

Here is the thoughtful email Keith sent to Dr. Bioteau to applaud the school and employees.

“Dear Dr. Bioteau:

In the Fall of 2011 I enrolled in classes at FSCJ with the sole intention of obtaining a credential that would lead to a job. What I got was much more than I bargained for. For the first time I felt like I belonged somewhere. For the first time I felt like people around me cared about my success. Mostly, for the first time I began to care about doing my best. I believe that is because of the people who surrounded me at FSCJ, and because of my participation in Phi Theta Kappa. I can tell you confidently, without PTK and professors and staff like Dr. Justin Bateh, Jon Lyon, Dr. Mary James, Lisa Westberry, Dr. Jose Lepervanche, Yvonne James, and Dr. Cabral-Maly—who mentored, taught, coached, pushed, and cheered me—I would not be writing to tell you that I am now an admitted graduate student at The Johns Hopkins University.

This letter is to express my gratitude for the opportunities I have had over the past few years—opportunities that have made me a better, happier, and more confident person. I never imagined when I started this thing that I would have earned 2 associate and 2 baccalaureate degrees, and be preparing to start a master’s degree at one of the country’s top institutions. It’s amazing what a short time in the right place with the right people can do for a person.

Thanks to FSCJ!”
