FSCJ Pays Tribute to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

This month, the FSCJ community is paying tribute to the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his impact on changing social norms in our community through his vision and activism.

MLK Jr. Day of Service
On Monday, January 15, FSCJ Volunteer Services joined with United Way in a Day of Service to commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Students and staff collectively volunteered at Susie Tolbert Elementary School and Northwestern Middle School where they cleaned, painted, landscaped and built picnic tables to improve the space. The BlueWave Women’s Basketball team also volunteered their time throughout the community.

MLK Jr. Vigil and Remembrance Ceremony
On Tuesday, January 16, the FSCJ community marched through South Campus and held a ceremony featuring faculty and staff keynote speakers in tribute to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. View photos from the event.

On Wednesday, January 17, students, faculty and staff learned about effective advocacy through the lives of Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X, and how each of us have a role in advocating on behalf of ourselves and underrepresented communities.
