The FSCJ Honors Program will kick off this Fall Term. Sixteen A.A. degree-seeking students are in the initial cohort.

Honors-designated classes in Communications, Humanities and Social and Behavioral Sciences will be held at the South Campus in the face-to-face format. Students will begin the Honors Program with IDH 2001:  Honors Seminar, a first-year experience seminar tailored to the honors student experience, and will conclude with IDS: 2891H, an A.A. capstone degree course. Students will follow an honors program road designed for two-year completion of the A.A. degree with honors. Students will have the flexibility to take general education math and science classes as well as their A.A. electives on other campuses as well as online.

Throughout the academic year, five faculty members will teach the first-year honors courses (IDH 2001, ENC 1101H, PSY 1012H, ENC 1102H, and AMH 2020). In collaboration with the Academy for Teaching and Learning, we will offer the FSCJ Distinguished Honors Faculty professional development certificate program to interested faculty throughout the academic year, thereby preparing them to teach in the Honors Program.

One of the most exciting aspects of the Honors Program is the integration of service learning as a degree requirement. Honors students will be engaged in fulfilling 60 service learning hours per academic year for a total of 120 service learning hours upon completion of the A.A. degree. Students will complete both individual service learning hours and a class project that they design with one another and their honors faculty and director to support one or more community organizations that are addressing a significant social issue in our community.
