On Friday, January 20, students and employees from across the College came together to celebrate Florida Arbor Day. Our state has celebrated Arbor Day since 1886 and has one of the first Arbor Day celebrations in the nation, held on the third Friday in January. Jack Hernandez of the Florida Forest Service gave a brief presentation on the history of Arbor Day in Florida and the United States.
In cooperation with Greenscape of Jacksonville, the Florida Forest Service and the Jacksonville Electric Authority (JEA), 20 student, faculty and staff interdisciplinary teams planted 50 trees on North Campus. The trees were donated by Greenscape of Jacksonville. JEA provided guidance and their employees during the planting.
