FSCJ BlueWave Men’s Basketball Player Ronald Taylor has been named the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 8 Hal Chasey Scholar Athlete of the Year for 2017-18.

The Hal Chasey Scholar Athlete of the Year Award goes to the top men’s basketball player in the NJCAA Region 8/Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) for outstanding academic achievement, athletic achievement and service to the community. Taylor is the first FSCJ Men’s Basketball player to ever receive this top award.

Taylor, a sophomore guard from Bradenton, FL (Southeastern High School), currently holds 3.68 GPA and is graduating this term with an Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree.

He is a two-year starter for the BlueWave Men’s Team and became the 35th member at FSCJ to join the 700 point club. He averaged 17.3 ppg (8th in the state) and a 44.2 three-point percentage (6th in the state) and was named first-team All-Mid Florida Conference this year.

Taylor has participated in multiple service events as a member of the Men’s Basketball Team including the Brooks Rehabilitation Wheelchair Basketball event, American Heart Association Heart 5k Walk and the Let’s Move! Jacksonville event.

“We are so proud of Ronald and his accomplishments during his time at FSCJ. He will leave the BlueWave as one of the most decorated Men’s Basketball players to represent our College,” said Director of Athletics Ginny Alexander.
