The annual FSCJ Author Series learning community engages approximately 2,000 students collegewide around a memoir that promotes academic discourse in higher education. More than two dozen professors in disciplines such as English, history, speech, art, dental hygiene, psychology, mathematics and economics willingly adopt the text in their classes. Students attend events throughout the school year concerning topics relevant to the text and have the opportunity to meet the author at the end of the year and listen to lectures that are both free and open to the public.

The seventh annual FSCJ Author Series learning community is focusing on Jason Peter’s memoir, “Hero of the Underground.” This New York Times bestseller depicts Peter’s experiences as a University of Nebraska football star, NFL first-round draft pick, and subsequent drug addict with painkillers, heroin and cocaine. It is a text rich in themes concerning addiction, health and wellness, heroism, family dynamics, athletics in America and much more.

FSCJ is hosting Mr. Peter at FSCJ’s Kent Campus and South Campus for lectures that are free and open to the public on Thursday, March 26, 2015. His first appearance at Kent Campus will begin at 11 a.m. and South Campus will begin at 7 p.m.
