The City Year Experience

UNF SOAR

The University of North Florida, School Counseling Program is better known as “School Counselors: Supporters Of Academic Rigor”, or simply SOAR. Beginning in 1999, the SOAR program has prepared school counseling students as advocates, leaders, college and career advisors, and counselors. The work of a school counselor is to create conditions necessary for academic achievement for all children, to be college and career ready, and to establish educational equity for success of all K-12 students. The SOAR program has a strong partnership with Duval County Public Schools, as well as outreach efforts to St. Johns, Clay, Putnam and Nassau counties. Each year that Form Your Future (formerly College Goal Sunday) has been held, the SOAR program has delivered important information about financial aid opportunities for families and their children pursuing the critical next step in their future for postsecondary education.
