Everything You Need to Know About Your Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) at FSCJ

Let’s start with the basics:

  • Financial Aid includes grants and loans from the Federal Government www.studentaid.gov.
  • By filling out a FAFSA, it may tell you if you are eligible or not to receive financial aid money, but it does not guarantee that you can use it to pay for your tuition.
  • SAP tells you if you can use FAFSA grants and loans to pay for your tuition. FSCJ checks your academic progress at the end of each semester (Fall, Spring, Summer) to see if you are meeting the three requirements of SAP, and to determine which SAP Status you are in.

Now, let’s dig deeper.

There are three requirements to ensure that you are “Meeting SAP” and are eligible to receive and use financial aid.

  • 2.0 Cumulative GPA or higher. The total college academic performance, regardless of whether you previously received financial aid or not.
  • 67% Completion Rate or higher of all college credit classes you have attempted. A course is considered "successfully completed" with a grade of A, B, C, or D in most programs. Grades such as F, W, I or U are not considered successful.
  • 150% Timeframe of your program’s length. Each program has a limited number of credits you are allowed to attempt. For example, if your program of study is 60 credit hours, the maximum amount of credit hours you can attempt are 90 credit hours. (60 credit hours x 1.50 = 90 credit hours or 150% of the program credits)
