This Paramedic program is held at the Fire Academy of the South located at the FSCJ South campus location.
The Paramedic Applied Technology Diploma (A.T.D.) program prepares students for employment as paramedics to function at the advanced pre-hospital - paramedic level and treat various medical/trauma conditions, using appropriate equipment and materials. The program allows a student to advance their scope of practice as an out-of-hospital provider of emergency medical care. The program curriculum follows the National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards for Paramedic and the Florida Department of Education Curriculum Frameworks for Paramedic. Each course of the program is divided into three sections with requirements the student to ride on an ALS-permitted ambulance. At the completion of the program, the student will receive an Applied Technical Diploma and will meet the pre-requisites for the Florida paramedic certification examination. This is a shift based program.

Upon completion of the program, graduates are eligible to apply to sit for the National Registry (NREMT) certification exam to quality for certification as a Florida Paramedic and a National Registered Paramedic.
The Fire Academy of the South Paramedic program has been issued a Letter of Review by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP). This letter is NOT a CAAHEP accreditation status, it is a status signifying that a program seeking initial accreditation has demonstrated sufficient compliance with the accreditation standards through the Letter of Review Self-Study Report (LSSR) and other documentation. Letter of Review is recognized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) for eligibility to take the National Registry's Paramedic credentialing examination(s). However, it is NOT a guarantee of eventual accreditation.
