What does it take to be a health care provider? Among other things, it takes compassion, patience, knowledge and skills. FSCJ offers comprehensive training on campus by medical professionals with hands-on clinical experience in a variety of hospitals and medical centers throughout the area.

From hospitals and physicians’ offices to nursing homes and home care, the Practical Nursing Career Certificate (C.C.) will provide you with many career options. You’ll learn basic nursing and clinical skills as well as medical terminology, computer literacy and medication administration. In addition, graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure examination to become a licensed practical nurse.

Career Options

By 2020, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a shortfall of 182,900 qualified Licensed Practical Nurses. The need for licensed practical nurses is also critical because of long-term care for an aging population as well as the general growth of health care services.


Upon completion of this program, graduates must successfully complete and pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nursing (NCLEX-PN) to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. The annual pass rate of first time takers on the NCLEX-PN can be found on the Florida Board of Nursing website at
