The Career Employees' Council (CEC) is the representative voice for the Career employees of FSCJ, with the goal to be committed to the continuous development of a collaborative work environment whereby the value and respect of Career employees are elevated through increased recognition, involvement and opportunities to achieve a higher degree of excellence. In this spirit, we put a "spotlight" on one of our members each month.

March's Career Employees' Council (CEC) Spotlight illuminates  Administration Support Manager Shannon Oliver, who has worked at the FSCJ for eight years. She started her career journey at FSCJ as a Student Success Advisor I, advising students at the campus advising centers and eventually ended up in District Financial Aid. She then began working in the Adult Education department as an Academic and Career Coordinator working with Adult High School, GED and ESOL students.

In late 2019, she moved into the Administration Building and is currently an Administration Support Manager to the VP of Finance and Administration. In this role, she is responsible for the efficient management of a broad range of on-going, executive-level administrative support functions critical to the operation of the Office of the Vice President of Finance and Administration. Shannon manages an extremely active calendar of appointments; completing expense reports; composing and preparing correspondence; arranging complex and detailed travel plans, itineraries, and agendas; communicating and coordinating with College stakeholders to include staff and external community. She oversees and assists in preparation for meetings, maintains budgets, tracks expenditures, processes invoices and expense reports, reconciles accounts and purchases supplies.

She works closely with the Office of the College President assisting the District Board of Trustees (DBOT) agenda development and review process for all recommendations proposed by administration departments and ensures the accuracy and timeliness of the agenda items. Ms. Oliver serves as the assistant to the VP of Finance and Administration for DBOT Finance and Audit Committee and supports the College’s Assistant General Counsel when needed. She also works on a wide variety of projects both independently and dependently with other stakeholders, handling many deadline-driven activities and confidential matters with professionalism and discretion.

Shannon enjoys working with her team and appreciates the ability to gain knowledge and grow. Ms. Oliver believes in being of service is one of her biggest attributes. She says, “I am a helper and leader by default. I have a high value of professionalism, ethical beliefs and integrity”. She ascribes to treating everyone with dignity and respect.

Shannon earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Fayetteville State University in North Carolina. She also has a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Lewis University in Illinois. She is a Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.

Ms. Oliver is the immediate past president of the FSCJ Association of Florida Colleges. Her current role with the AFC is FSCJ Chapter Historian and AFC Campus Safety Board. She has made great contributions to the CEC by working on the By Laws Committee, CEC Election Committee, CEC Award Recognition Committee and advising sitting CEC chairs.

Outside of FSCJ, Shannon volunteers with the Association of Florida Colleges on various community service projects. She shares her talents with Feeding Northeast Florida, KIPP Schools, Ronald McDonald House of Jacksonville and more. When she is not working at FSCJ, she loves to read, paint and spend time exploring Florida as she moved to the sunshine state of Florida almost 11 years ago.

Our spotlight seeks to showcase a CEC representative from each campus/center at least once a year. Nominations for the spotlight may be directed to the CEC Publicity Committee Chair Vanessa Gordon at CEC@fscj.edu.
