The Career Employees' Council (CEC) is the representative voice for the Career employees of FSCJ, with the goal to be committed to the continuous development of a collaborative work environment whereby the value and respect of Career employees are elevated through increased recognition, involvement and opportunities to achieve a higher degree of excellence. In this spirit, we put a "spotlight" on one of our members each month.

November’s Career Employees' Council (CEC) Spotlight illuminates Project Coordinator Scott Yaun. He has been with the College for over eight years. He began his employment journey at FSCJ as a part-time Test Proctor for the Distance Learning Team at Deerwood in 2015. In his current role as project coordinator for FSCJ Online, his main focus areas are textbook adoptions and Canvas content loading for our online adjunct instructors. In addition, he assists with syllabus reviews, the NA drop process, scheduling/encoding of all online courses and faculty observations.

One of the main things Scott enjoys about the job is getting to know – and providing support to – "our online adjunct instructors."

He states, "We have some wonderful online instructors at FSCJ, and it continues to be an honor to help them get their courses and materials in place." He also says it is rewarding to know that students have everything necessary to ensure a successful start to each term.

Scott says, "While I am not currently serving in an official role with the CEC, I have supported, and continue to support, the objectives in several ways. In my former role as Distance Learning Assessment Coordinator, I was responsible for our Online Test Proctors, ensuring their voices and needs were heard."

He served on a committee that mapped out expectations for online exam students during this time. This set of expectations also supported our testing administrators, many of whom participated with the CEC. Scott is on the Professional Development Advisory Group, which meets regularly to suggest and shape professional development courses for College employees.

Scott is a proud FSCJ graduate! He earned his A.A. and then transferred to UNF, where he earned a bachelor's in sociology. While at UNF, he conducted original sociological research on consumption and identity construction. He also graduated from the FSCJ Leadership Academy in 2022, has earned several certifications and has a background in counseling adults with acquired brain injuries.

He is a full-time caregiver, so he is not as free as he once was! However, in the past, he volunteered for organizations such as Meals on Wheels, Clay County Literacy Coalition and Haven Hospice.

Scott enjoys reading (mainly biographies and autobiographies); he also listens to – and occasionally plays – music, hikes and swims. Beyond that, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, watching movies and collecting Transformers. (He’s been collecting for over 30 years!)

Our spotlight seeks to showcase a CEC representative from each campus/center at least once a year. Nominations for the spotlight may be directed to the CEC Publicity Committee Chair Vanessa Gordon at CEC@fscj.edu.
