Get Prepared for Hurricane Season

Jun 9, 2022, 12:51 PM

The 2018 hurricane season began on June 1 and runs through November 30 and now is the time to get ready. Don't wait until the threat of a storm to start your preparations.

Please review the information on our Emergency Information webpage and the National Weather Service website for Hurricane Preparedness. The American Red Cross and local television stations continue to be good sources of information as well.

Be sure to enroll in our Emergency Alert System through myFSCJ to ensure you will receive related weather alerts. Check the Quicklinks section for the Emergency Notifications link.

If you haven't already done so, you should also assemble a new Hurricane Supply Kit for your family. You can find useful information for preparing your kit and evacuation plans on our website and on the NWS website. New recommendations and checklists encourage that you prepare for a minimum of five days’ supply of water, non-perishable food supplies and other necessities. Some may have experienced more than five days without power as a result of damage caused by one of the recent storms and can very well relate to the need for having additional supplies on hand.
