The 2019 Herbert W. Scheidel Community Leadership in Action award celebration was held at Epping Forest on Wednesday, March 27. The FSCJ Foundation Board, Scheidel Foundation and family representatives, and other FSCJ administrators joined together to award the three finalists for this year’s scholarship.

Travis McFarlane was the 2019 finalist. His story is one of commitment, hope and perseverance against great odds. He pours himself into helping the youth ministries at Paxon’s Revival Church Center along with providing outreach programs in the community to help the homeless and individuals who are in recovery. Travis is completing his A.A. degree and wants to pursue his A.S. in Radiography.

Semi-finalists were Teleauba Revels and Victoria Lemmon. Teleauba is pursuing her A.A. degree and eventually wants to pursue a master’s degree in social work. She currently volunteers at the Northeast Florida Healthy Start Coalition and is also a recovery coach. Victoria volunteers helping youth through the 4-H Foundation and is finishing her A.A. degree with plans to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Travis received a $5,000 scholarship and Teleauba and Victoria both received $500. All three students will have donations made in their honor to the nonprofit of their choice.
