Wounded Warriors: Getting their Education on TRACK

December 17th, 2007 was a date that changed Bryan Wagner’s life. “We got the word that we were going to be protective service for a high ranking Army official, take her to another base, and bring her back for a meeting. On the way back, my truck was blown up by a large improvised explosive device,” says Wagner.

“We got the word that we were going to be protective service for a high ranking Army official, take her to another base, and bring her back for a meeting. On the way back, my truck was blown up by a large improvised explosive device,” says Wagner.

The attack left Bryan’s right leg severely injured.

“I eventually decided to have my leg amputated. It was a hard decision. Definitely the hardest decision I have ever had to make,” says Wagner.

Bryan has used his injury as inspiration for other soldiers. He is now the Assistant Dean of Students for the TRACK program with Wounded Warrior Project. It is a 12-month program that offers injured veterans a jump-start on their educational goals.

“What we do in TRACK, is get guys back in the swing of going to school. Sitting in class, doing homework, passing classes, making sure they make it to class, and also get them in an externship,” says Wagner.

Wounded Warrior Project has partnered with Florida State College at Jacksonville to provide these classes to TRACK participants. To learn more about Bryan’s military journey or to find out more about the TRACK program, check out the video above.
