Few athletes end their high school careers as accomplished as Rennia Davis.
She won three state championships as a member of the Ribault girls basketball team, won the state’s Miss Basketball honor, led the Trojans to a national crown at the 2016 DICK’s Sporting Goods High School Nationals and garnered both McDonald’s All-American and Jordan Brand Classic berths. She’s the first area girl to grab both of those major accolades. While those hoops honors are second to none, Davis academic honors were stellar.
She graduated 14th in her class of 306, had a 4.02 weighted GPA and earned her AA degree from FSCJ while in high school. She mentored young girls through the Take Stock in Children program, and served as a Teen Trendsetter, where she helped and encouraged younger children to read.
Ribault school counselor Shonne C. Robinson said that Davis has managed to keep the balance between basketball, academics and helping out within the community as good as anyone. “She immediately stood out from her peers due to her maturity level and academic focus. Although a quiet and humble young lady, I’ve witness[ed] her personality blossom over the last three years. Her positive attitude and spirit resonates with everyone she comes in contact with.”

IN HER WORDS
Greatest lesson learned in high school: “The greatest lesson I learned in high school is the ability to win. I was able to come to Ribault and understand the legacy that was there before me, and embrace it in a positive way. Being on a team that won three state championships and a national title was quite the achievement, and I plan on taking that same winning attitude to Tennessee with me as well.”
Greatest high school memory and greatest achievement outside of sports: “Was by far when I got my AA degree from FSCJ. I think I was able to accomplish something so great at so young because of the same self-motivation I’ve learned from the game of basketball.
Greatest achievement in sports: “My greatest achievement in Sports was making the McDonalds All-American game. Although I am all about team success, it was nice to have such a prestigious individual thing be accomplished.”
Athlete she most admires: “Candace Parker. I feel like we have similar games, as well as similar personalities. She’s the best player in the game, in my opinion, which takes up a lot of her time, yet she still carries herself as a wife and mother.”
In 10 years she will be: “I will be in the WNBA or overseas playing basketball. I’ll probably have my restaurant opened up by then as well.”
