Ottis Toole was a native of Springfield, the Jacksonville neighborhood just north of Downtown. He was an arsonist and may have been a murderer, but we'll never know. He died in prison in the 1996, but not before admitting to a multitude of crimes, including the murder of young Adam Walsh. Jacksonville native, published author and poet, Professor Tim Gilmore was teaching a couple of classes in which students had to research the city's history, architecture and urban legends. Host Melissa Ross interviewed Gilmore about his knowledge of the part of Jacksonville history that included the life and times of Ottis Toole. Listen to the interview. It's about seven minutes. Take a look also at Gilmore's visual and verbal paean to Jacksonville history and architecture at Jax Psycho Geo (or point your browser to http://jaxpsychogeo.com/tim-gilmore/). Gilmore teaches Literature and Writing at Florida State College at Jacksonville. Included in his course schedule is a class on "Ghost Stories" literature in the fall and a course on Urban Legends in the spring. Interview aired October 10, 2013 on First Coast Connect, Public Radio 89.9, WJCT.org.
