Meet Dr. Marie Foster Gnage

Nov 1, 2022, 10:58 AM
New President for Downtown Campus has big plans for FSCJ

Dr. Marie Foster Gnage is the new president for the Downtown Campus at FSCJ. Dr. Gnage previously served as the president for West Virginia University at Parkersburg. Dr. Gnage was gracious to provide some highlights about her goals for Downtown Campus, along with a few fun facts about herself.

Q. I have noticed that you were able to reach record enrollment numbers at your previous university. How do you intend to increase enrollment here at FSCJ?

A. “It is true that we have reached record enrollment numbers in the last five years. However, like other colleges, [we] have experienced continuing decreases. What we have been doing in response to the decreases is strategic enrollment management. One thing I do know: recruitment and retention has to be the responsibility of everyone who works at the campus.”

Q. What qualities will you bring to FSCJ from your previous University that will promote the FSCJ image?

A. “I love to be engaged in the community. I serve on boards; attend community events- I get to know people. I believe strongly in partnering with business and industry, community based organizations, secondary and postsecondary schools and local government for the benefit of our college and our students.”

Q. Are there any future plans for Downtown Campus to be remodeled or updated?

A. “During my visits to Downtown Campus, I learned about the needs for remodeling, renovations and new constructions. All the above required funding. I would certainly advocate for projects that will help further Downtown Campus program goals and continue to ensure a safe and effective learning community.”

Q. What was your favorite food as a child?

A. “Favorite food as a child – that was a while ago!!! Probably fresh milk and cornbread; I am a GRITS – Girl raised in the South.

Q. What is the number one song played on your iPod?

A. “I love variety, so I can’t think of a most played single song. However, I truly enjoy listening to Eva Cassidy even though it makes me sad that a talented singer died so young.”

Dr. Gnage will begin her role as Downtown Campus president on July 1, 2014.
