Governor Rick Scott Appoints Three New Members to the District Board of Trustees

The new members include a Florida State College alumna, a retired Adjutant General for the State of Florida and the Director of Medical Education for the American Lung Association Southeast. In the meantime, here's the official announcement from Governor Scott.

8/30/2011 Tallahassee, Fla. – Governor Rick Scott today announced three reappointments and three appointments to the District Board of Trustees, Florida State College at Jacksonville.

Kevin F. Delaney, 64, of Jacksonville, is a retired Rear Admiral for the United States Navy and the president and chief executive officer of Delaney and Associates. He is reappointed for a term beginning August 30, 2011, and ending May 31, 2015.

Delaney served in the United States Navy from 1964 to 1998 as the Commanding Officer of Naval Air Station Jacksonville from 1989 to 1991. As a Rear Admiral, he served as the United States Navy’s Regional Commander, responsible for 14 major naval installations and four naval hospitals throughout the Southeast United States. In addition, he is the past chair and president of the Northeast Florida Safety Council and a past chair of the Jacksonville Beaches Chamber of Commerce and Florida State College Foundation Board of Directors. Since 2010, he has served on the Florida Council on Military Bases and Mission Support. He received a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the United States Naval Academy, a master’s degree from George Washington University, and was a fellow at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Brookings Institution.

James E. McCollum, 64, of Fernandina Beach, is a retired regional director for BellSouth. He is reappointed for a term beginning August 30, 2011, and ending May 31, 2015.

McCollum served as chair of the Business Advisory Councils of the University of North Florida and the Florida State College Technology Center. He served in the United States Army from 1970 to 1972 and in the United States Army Reserve from 1972 to 1976. He received his bachelor’s degree from Florida State University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of West Florida.

Thomas “Mac” McGehee Jr., 51, of Jacksonville, has been the executive vice president of Mac Papers Inc. since 1981. He is reappointed for a term beginning August 30, 2011, and ending May 31, 2015.

McGehee has served on the Board of Trustees for Florida State College at Jacksonville since 1999. A board member of the Printing Association of Florida, he received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida.

Karen E. Bowling, 56, of Jacksonville, is the deputy chief administrative officer for Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown. She succeeds Emily Smith and is appointed for a term beginning August 30, 2011, and ending May 31, 2014.

Previously, Bowling was chief executive officer of Solantic Walk-In Urgent Care from 2001 to 2011. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Jacksonville Electric Authority, the Florida State College at Jacksonville Foundation, Associated Industries of Florida and Crime Stoppers of North Florida. She is also on the advisory board for the Jacksonville Humane Society. Douglas Burnett, 67, of Jacksonville, is a retired Adjutant General for the State of Florida and a self-employed consultant. He succeeds Michael Corrigan and is appointed for a term beginning August 30, 2011, and ending May 31, 2014.

Beginning in 1963, Burnett served in the United States Air Force and the Florida National Guard, serving as Florida’s Adjutant General from 2001 until his retirement as a Major General in 2010. Previously, he served as Assistant Adjutant General for Air from 1996 to 2001. He has held key positions with the 125th Fighter Wing and at the Florida National Guard’s Joint Force Headquarters, including Chief of Staff, Commander and Director of Operations. Candace “Candy” Holloway, 59, of Bryceville, is the director of medical education for the American Lung Association of the Southeast. She succeeds Linda Asay and is appointed for a term beginning August 30, 2011, and ending May 31, 2014.

Since 1984, Holloway has also directed the Southeast Thoracic Association. She has been a member of the Florida COPD Coalition Steering Committee since 2008 and the Pediatric Pulmonary Community Advisory Board for the University of Florida since 2007. She has received the American Lung Association and Florida Thoracic Society Award for Excellence in Educational Programs.
